Clearing Common Misconceptions and Digging Deeper
PMS DOES NOT TYPICALLY OCCUR DURING YOUR PERIOD.
Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) symptoms actually start five to eleven days before menstruation and usually go away once menstruation begins. Over 90% of women experience PMS and symptoms include acne, food cravings (particularly for sweets), headaches, fatigue, irritability, soreness, and sensitivity.
DO PERIODS SYNC IF YOU ARE AROUND OTHER WOMEN?
The simple answer is no, there is no recent or reliable scientific evidence of this occurring.

The notion of "period synchrony" was initially published in a 1971 Nature article. This article and its supporting research claimed that women who lived in close quarters, such as roommates, would, over time, experience synchronized menstrual cycles. The scientific rationale for this phenomenon was that women exchanged pheromones that promoted their cycles matching up.
This study popularized the idea and even today, many believe that this occurs. However, since then, dozens of studies, both on roommates and female family members, have not been able to support such findings. More likely than not, this is simply a myth.
OTHER THAN REUSABLE COTTON PADS, WHAT ARE OTHER ECO-FRIENDLY OPTIONS?
While disposable pads and tampons come wrapped in plastic and are fairly expensive, a cheaper and more eco-friendly option is menstrual cups. Increasing popular, each silicone menstrual cup can last up to 10 years and, unlike tampons, does not allow for leakages.
